I can't classify this into a genre. I think this piece and the psalm preludes are Howells at his best. It was composed in 1916 and can be interpreted in many ways. This piece shows off the Hereford solo and swell stops but I refrained from bringing in the 32 foot when asked. It may work in the cathedral but not on my headphones when supporting other quiet stops.
