An organ transcription (author unknown) of four verses with the Amen of the famous Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), originally written for soprano, alto, strings and basso continuo.
The composition of the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi was commissioned in 1735 (a few months before his death), the Neapolitan secular brotherhood of the Knights of the Virgin of Sorrows of St. Louis at the Palace, to officiate the liturgy of Holy Week. It would replace the previous version of Alessandro Scarlatti, commissioned by the same brotherhood twenty years before.
Giovanni Battista Draghi, said Pergolesi
(Jesi, January 4, 1710 - Pozzuoli, March 17, 1736) was a composer, organist and violinist of Italian operas and sacred music of the Baroque era.
