Johann Julius Schneider was born in Berlin in 1805. His father ran a piano factory. As Julius should follow his father in this business, he received thorough musical education. Among his teachers was August Wilhelm Bach, Mendelssohn's organ teacher. However, Schneider decided in favor of a musical career. He became organist in Berlin in 1830, teacher at the Royal Institute of Church Music in 1854, and professor in 1866. Schneider was also well-known as conductor.
The score of this choral prelude is on imslp. This recording is my first attempt to use the clarinet of the Ladegast sampleset.
