Hans Georg Bertram (1936–2013) — Praeambulum in B-flat (1974/81) for organ
Hans Georg Bertram (1936–2013) was a German composer and organist. He was educated at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart (where he studied with Hans Arnold Metzger and Johann Nepomuk David) and at the University of Würzberg (with Georg Reichert). In 1978, he joined the faculty of the University of Sacred Music in Esslingen am Neckar (where he taught organ, improvisation, composition, and music theory) until his retirement in 1997. From 1978–2008 he was organist at the Stadtkirche in Esslingen. Bertram’s compositional output includes choral and organ works, chamber music, orchestra pieces (including two symphonies), and several oratorios (a genre that was of particular interest to him).
