Description:
Tomorrow is the 4th Sunday in Lent. It is called by many names: This Sunday is currently also known as Mothering Sunday, Refreshment Sunday, Mid-Lent Sunday, and Rose Sunday, because the use of rose-colored vestments instead of the more somber, violet ones.

It takes its name from the opening of the proper Latin Introit at the Mass, "Laetare Jerusalem."

This hymn is not a "Lenten hymn," but it is a text of hope, inspiration and love, and is well suited to this Sunday.

The tune is by Herbert Howells (1892-1983), and is called "Michael," the name of his son, who tragically died at an early age.

The text is by Robert Bridges (1844-1930), who based his writing on the German of J. Neander (1650-1680).

The words and tune are a flawless match, and can not fail to move the listener, player, or singer!

(One full verse of introduction and the score is attached.)

This upload is dedicated to our member "Erzahler" - to whom I promised this upload well over a year ago. Sorry for the delay in doing this! :-)

All my hope on God is founded;
He doth still my trust renew.
Me through change and chance he guideth,
Only good and only true.
God unknown,
He alone
Calls my heart to be his own.

Pride of man and earthly glory,
Sword and crown betray his trust;
What with toil and care he buildeth,
Tower and temple fall to dust
But God's power,
Hour by hour,
Is my temple and my tower.

God's great goodness aye endureth,
Deep his wisdom, passing thought:
Splendour, light and life attend him,
Beauty springeth out of naught.
Evermore
From his store
New-born worlds rise and adore.

Daily doth th'Almighty giver
Bounteous gifts on us bestow;
His desire our soul delighteth,
Pleasure leads us where we go.
Love doth stand
At his hand;
Joy doth wait on his command.

Still from man to God eternal
Sacrifice of praise be done,
High above all praises praising
For the gift of Christ his Son.
Christ doth call
One and all:
Ye who follow shall not fall.
