One thing I must ad:
This Ave Maria is not by Jacob Arcadelt, but its tune. It is from a Chanson at 1554 by him. The French Composer Pierre Dietzsch took it 1842 for a Magnificat and set the lyric of Ave Maria below it. Liszt could not know it yet, because the truth became public first in 1927.
It is unbelieveable, when you here the motet, e.g. on youtube. This must be the fascination for Liszt and perhaps the reason for this composition. In his old Age he expressed his joy at this work.
