According to a poorly translated article, he became organist in 1841. In 1870 the organ was destroyed and he set about helping to rebuild it, inaugurating it in 1877.
He seems to have been largely self-taught and a good improviser, though he didn't use this during the worship service.
The piece is played across the three manuals. Choir corresponds to volume marking p, Great to mf and Swell to pp. Hard to know what to class this piece as, as it isn't really all that romantic in nature and more classical to my ears.
