Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) was a German Roman-Catholic composer and Professor at the Musikhochschule Cologne since 1948. He often kept his compositions simple for a "serving" purpose in the liturgy.
His style has parallels to Hindemith, Genzmer and Pepping, described as "austere and emotionally temperate."
This little piece is somewhere in the middle - depends on the way of interpretation. I didn't hesitate to use the Swell strings and the tremulants in solo voices to let it flow through the nave. My organ teacher gave this piece to me when I was 16 to learn the use of (8') double pedal. I still like it very much...
