Description: | One of Böhm's well-known chorale preludes.
I was very much intrigued by a remark our Bartflöte made in one of his uploads about Böhm. Thanks for that, Michael!
He stated, that the embellishments in the editions of Böhm's music are probably added by editors and not by Böhm himself, as the taste of the public had changed with time.
Walther's name was mentioned in that aspect.
I had always wondered why there were so many in Böhms music, like in French organ music, but never really got to the point of trying to figure it out.
In this choral prelude I play the first part without almost any of the embellishments the Kalmus edition states.
In the repeat of the first part I try to play them ALL, hard as it is.
The second part has few, even in this edition.
There are very expensive newer editions and perhaps in them everything is cleaned up. But I don't have them. |
