Alfred Ernest Floyd was born in Aston, Birmingham in 1877 and after attaining a Doctorate of Music and work in the UK came to Australia in 1915 to take up the position of organist and Choir Director at St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne a position he held for 32 years.
Larghetto in G minor and Air in G major by Handel, arranged by A. E. Floyd.
The Larghetto is from the Violin Sonata in G minor HWV 364b but the bridge at the end does not lead to the Allegro mvt as in the original sonata but to the well know Bourree fourth mvt from HWV 363b (Op1 no 5). This sonata was originally in F and for Oboe.
There are no details for when these movements were arranged, they may have been student works.
