Willem Vogel 1920_2010 was a Dutch Cantor, Organist and Composer of church music.
His education was varied.He studied organ with Albert de Klerk, composing with Jan Koetsier and directing with Jaap Spaanderman.
Between 1961 and 1973 he was the organist of the Nieuwezijds Chapel in Amsterdam.
The choir he formed there later went under the name Sweelinck Cantorij and sings until now in the Amsterdam Oude Kerk.
In the last years of his life Vogel was the cantor and later also the organist of the Oude Kerk.
He wrote many melodies for the Dutch hymnal of 1973 and composed preludes as well.
He had a big impact on the musical life in Dutch reformed churches in the 20th century.
Many of his excellent melodies and preludes are still very much in use.
