Laurenskerk - Main Organ - 1973 Marcussen & Son

Software: | Hauptwerk IV |
Genre: | Romantic |
Description: | One of the most well-known pieces of Jan Zwart. Often it is played with mellow flute+trem registrations, and in a slow tempo. However, the composers' tempo indication is andante. The piece should express joy and longing for the Temple of the Lord. As it is a prelude, it should invite to sing along with the choral. Here I tried a pp registration on the BW and BrW, with a crescendo at the end to prepare for the choral.
The piece is usually accompanied by a choral arrangement, but that one is possibly not composed by Jan Zwart but one of his pupils. I chose to improvise a choral instead, using a double cornet registration, with the HW cornet and a 16' cornet composé. In congregational singing, such a registration is a powerful support for all the high and low voices.
