Composed in 1876 at Rome, for four handed Piano.
Consists total 12 Pieces, this is the first one and is based on the "Psallite Unigenito" of Michael Praetorius.
The theme "Psallite" f-c goes through this piece.
I think, it sounds just as good on an organ.
Last but not least:
Liszt has it dedicated to his Granddaughter Daniela von Bülow.
