Gustav Biener (1926-2003) was born in Dortmund into a family which had given music a high priority since many generations. At age 13 he wrote first pieces for his family. Biener studied church music and became organist in Arnsberg. He taught composition and couterpoint at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Westfalen Lippe. Biener left some 400 music pieces.
