Description: | Beate Leibe (b. 1954) — Keine Angst vor schwarzen Tasten (2009) for organ
The title of this scherzo translates to: "No Fear of the Black Keys."
German composer and organist Beate Leibe (b. 1954) took piano lessons as a child but even after winning competitions was encouraged into following a non-musical path for more than 30 years. Joining a church choir in 1991 became the impetus to begin musical activities again when the choir’s director encouraged her to start composing. In the late 90s, Leibe began studying church music in Berlin, and in 2002 she received her certifications to begin a career as a church musician. During this period she wrote many works for organ. After 12 years, Leibe retired from church music work, though has continued to compose and work as a substitute organist. Leibe’s compositions are primarily in a traditional style informed largely by baroque and classical music, with some romantic and contemporary touches.
