Description: | Manfred Weiss (b. 1935) — Heiter (2009) for organ
German composer Manfred Weiss (b. 1935) was born in Niesky/Oberlausitz and was educated in Halle and Berlin. In 1959, he joined the faculty in the fields of music theory and composition at the Hochschule für Musik “Carl-Maria-von-Weber” in Dresden; he held positions first as lecturer, then professor, and finally as vice-rector. Weiss retired from teaching in 1998. He has received numerous awards for his more than 120 works in many genres. Among Weiss’s works are five orchestral symphonies, several concerti, and numerous chamber works. He has also written a small number of pieces for the organ, which he studied in childhood; in addition to several solo pieces, there are works for organ and solo instrument, and a major concerto with string orchestra and percussion.
