Jan Zwart, *Zaandam 20 augustus 1877 - +Zaandam 13 juli 1937. Dutch organist & composer of organ-, piano- and choral works. He was the first organist in the Netherlands who played at live radio broadcasts. He was also the first cantor-organist in the Lutheran Church in the Netherlands. He gave numerous organrecitals, organized organ days, published organ music and encouraged colleagues to compose for the organ. In addition he did historical research of the organ and organ playing in the Netherlands. He has published many articles in various journals. He had many pupils, of whom the most famous were: Feike Asma (1912-1984), Cor Kee (1900-1997) and Willem Mudde (1909-1984). Four of his sons were also professional organist: Dirk Jansz. Zwart (1917-2002), Piet Zwart (1921-1987), Jaap Zwart sr. (1924-2001) and Willem Hendrik Zwart (1925-1997).
Most archival material of Jan Zwart is stored in the Netherlands Music Institute in The Hague.
