| Description: | If I counted correctly there are already 24 recordings of this famous piece available on Contrebombarde. All splendid recordings on great instruments in lush acoustics. After all, that's how we like hearing this piece: a thundering organ in a large reverberant space.
This morning I thought: how many of us have such an organ available in real live? I don't. And I guess most of us have to make do with modest instruments in modest churches. I never played this piece before, because, well, the church is too small, or the organ is too small. But does this piece really need a big organ and a large church?
So I thought, let's experiment. The newest sample set of Piotr Gabrowski is a small organ, in a modest 2 to 3 seconds acoustics. And I'm quite impressed with the result. Only 8 stops used, organ and toccata really shine. I guess that shows the quality of the instrument and the quality of the piece.
