English composer and conductor Colin Mawby (1936–2019) began his musical education at Westminster Cathedral Choir School where at age 12 he became George Malcolm’s organ assistant. Mawby continued his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music where he worked with Gordon Jacob, Adrian Boult, and Malcolm Sargent. In 1961, Mawby was appointed Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral. In 1976, he left Westminster to become the choral director for the Irish national radio (RTÉ) in Dublin where he founded the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir, the RTÉ Children’s Choir, and the RTÉ Chamber Choir. In 2001 he retired and became active as a freelance composer and clinician. Mawby wasa very prolific composer, having written hundreds of works: primarily choral and organ music. His music appears in the catalogs of many publishers, and besides in his native UK has become very popular in Germany and the USA.
