Gary D. Penkala (b. 1955) is an active Roman Catholic church musician who has directed music programs in Pennsylvania (Our Lady of Victory, State College) and West Virginia (Saint James the Greater, Charles Town). From 1991–93, he served as Director of Sacred Music at the Pontifical North American College, Vatican City State. Penkala has been active in committee work and leadership within Catholic dioceses as well as for the American Guild of Organists. In 1996, Penkala was one of the founders of CanticaNOVA Publications, a Roman Catholic publisher of “traditional music for the contemporary church.” As a composer, he has written and published numerous liturgical works.
