2012 Metzler, Poblet Abbey, Spain
|
Software: | Hauptwerk IV |
Genre: | Baroque |
Description: | Whenever playing this fugue on my harpsichord at home, I felt this monumental piece needed a much bigger setting than two coupled tinkling 8' manuals and a 4'.
Playing it on the Steinway grand was a lot more rewarding; though feeling guilty for not playing it on the intended instrument in the proper style was always a kind of block to enjoy it.
(Us Dutch organists are always sooooo concientuous; must be the reformation still in our DNA.)
As I'm much older now and hopefully a lot more foolish, I decided to play it the way I bloody well pleased.
The Poblet Metzler sprung to mind. And a registration suited (imho) to both the piece AND the organ.
As the prelude would be completely overshadowed by the power of the fugue this way, I decided to leave it out. It is a fine prelude, but well, not this time.
Registrations:
HW: Plenum 8' basis + Fagot 16' + Cornet
RW: Plenum 8'
BW: Chamades 8', 4'
Ped: 16' Plenum + Bombarde 16' + Trumpet
Couples: HW-RW, HW-Ped, RW-Ped |
