Enrico Pasini (b. 1935) — Cantabile No. 59, “Vagando nella spazio” for organ
Enrico Pasini (b. 1935) is an Italian composer and organist. He was born in Rome and was educated at the Conservatorio di S. Cecilia there where his primary composition teacher was Armando Renzi. For 30 years, Pasini was professor of organ at the Conservatory of Music “Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina” in Caligari, Sardinia. Pasini’s music is lyrical and traditional in its conception, and he has become particularly noted for the more than 200 pieces in his “cantabile” series of compositions. The “cantabile” pieces began primarily as works of a quiet lyrical character featuring a solo melody and accompaniment. However, as the series has grown, so has the expressive range, with pieces that “are pieced together like a mosaic out of a variety of emotions and sentiments—originating from a heart’s ever-changing beat.” What has remained a constant in the music is the inspiration from Pasini’s beloved island of Sardinia.
