Austrian organist and composer Peter Planyavsky (b. 1947) was educated at the Vienna Academy of Music, and in 1969 he was appointed organist at Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral. He served there until his retirement in 2004; from 1983–90, he was also the cathedral’s director of music. In 1980, Planyavsky became Professor of Organ at the Vienna Academy of Music, and from 1996 to 2002 he was the chair of the department of church music. Planyavsky has traveled widely as a concert organist and has published extensively as a composer in many genres.
