Thaxted

Piece of music by Gustav Holst originally from The Planets piece Jupiter.

Living in Essex I am fortunate enough to be half an hour away from the wonderful village of Thaxted. I visited the beautiful place today. It is amazing as for such a small village it has a rather large parish church.

Gustav Holst first visited in 1913 and a house he lived in from 1917 - 1923 is still there. He wrote the Planets while there and some speculate that the hymn tune which is now known as Thaxted, set to the words 'I Vow To Thee My Country' (and now more commonly O God Beyond All Praising) was first heard on the three manual organ inside the church.
