Description: | Gerolamo Barbieri was born in Piacenza on October 2, 1808. He soon became a skilled organ and piano player. He was appointed organist in the church of S.Protaso. He also directed operas at the Teatro di Cremona, the city where he was appointed chapel master and organist of the cathedral. He returned to Piacenza to give himself to the composition, concerts and concertation of his works, an activity which he also saw in Faenza, Bergamo, Crema, Bologna, Florence. He was appointed partner of the Academy of S. Cecilia in Rome.
Equipped with fluent melodic ease, he wrote over 1300 compositions, many of which were edited by Bertuzzi, Canti, Guidi, Longhi, Ricordi, Vismara. Her musical genre reflected the taste of the time and her organ compositions, in addition to the severe style, are also pleasant, echoing the dramatic-operatic style that made them become epicular catchy. He died in Piacenza on June 4, 1871. |
