Description:
Carl Friedrich Armbrust (* 30.3.1849 in Hamburg, † 7.7.1896 in Hannover on a holiday trip), was an excellent organ virtuoso. He was educated at the Stuttgart Conservatory. There he was a pupil of Immanuel Gottlob Friedrich von Faißt, (* 13.1.1823, † 5.6.1894). In 1874 Carl Armbrust married Thusnelde, his daughter, after he had married the Hamburg Petri organist Georg Armbrust in 1869, following the sudden death of his father. (*17.3.1818, †2.5.1869) into his office as his successor. Until then, Carl Armbrust was organist of the St. Gertrud-Kirche in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst. The organ sonata in D minor about the chorale "Nun danket alle Gott" is the only surviving work by Carl Armbrust. It was published by the Hamburg publisher Ludwig Hoffmann. The elegant harmony, a pianistically pleasing movement, formal coherence and the familiarity of the underlying chorale melody characterize this clean composition.
