Description:
Hymns to Help Us Through - #27 - “Open My Eyes, that I May See” and “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed”...

Hello, my friends!!

As I sat down to record a hymn today, I had only planned on recording “Open My Eyes that I May See”. But, suddenly, when I was practicing the interlude something wonderful happened! “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed” popped up! So today’s “Hymn to Help Us Through” is really a gentle (and hopefully moving) medley!

(By the way, you'll definitely want to use headphones - the sound of this pipe organ is amazing!! The words for today's hymn are below, in case you want to sing along!) :)

“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”
& “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed”

Tunes: Open My Eyes
& Martyrdom

Open my eyes, that I may see
glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
place in my hands the wonderful key
that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God thy will to see;
open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
and did my Sovereign die?
Would he devote that sacred head
for sinners such as I?

Open my ears, that I may hear
voices of truth thou sendest clear;
and while the wave-notes fall on my ear,
everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God thy will to see;
open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Was it for crimes that I have done,
he groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

Open my mouth, and let me bear
gladly the warm truth everywhere;
open my heart and let me prepare
love with thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God thy will to see;
open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,
and shut its glories in,
when God, the mighty Maker, died
for man the creature’s sin.

Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God thy will to see;
open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Amen.

Blessings, my friends! :)
