Description: | The melody of this chorale is better known as "Von Gott will ich nicht lassen".
This piece is one of the seven choral preludes of Johann Nicolaus Hanff which have survived through the ages. My intention is to record all seven of them. Such a pity that no other organ works of Hanff have survived besides these choral preludes. His style is very similar to Buxtehude, so I wonder how a praeludium or fuge of him would have sound.
Hanff is born in the region of Thüringen. The Stertzing organ I play in this recording is based in Erfurt, a Thüringian city. Although his style is more Northern-German, that's reason enough to play his opus magnus on this organ.
If you want to hear this piece on a typical Northern-German organ, listen to the performance of EdoL: https://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/23258 |
