Description: | Armin Thalheim (b. 1944) — Lied ohne Worte, op. 12b, no. 8 (2014) for organ
German composer, organist, pianist, and harpsichordist Armin Thalheim (b. 1944) was born in Kamenz, Saxony and educated in Dresden and Leipzig. In 1972, he earned the second prize in the Leipzig Bach Competition and was active as a continuo player and organist for the Leipzig Thomanerchor. Since 1969, Thalheim has been based in Berlin where he is very active as a touring performer of early music, particularly on the harpsichord. From 1974–2009, he taught early music and improvisation at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and improvisation from 1996–2008 at the Leipzig Musikhochschule. As a composer, Thalheim’s output displays influences from jazz and popular music blended with the classical idiom.
