American composer Spencer Arias (b. 1990) was born in Phoenix, Arizona and was educated at Arizona State, New York University, and Michigan State University. His teachers include Roshanne Etezady, Justin Dello Joio, Julia Wolfe, Lyn Goeringer, and Alexis Bacon. Arias has also been active as a saxophone performer and has studied the instrument with Timothy McAllister. Arias creates highly evocative music oftentimes represented by lived experiences and social commentary. Having worked with dancers, musicians, visual artists, and poets, he thoroughly enjoys collaboration, improvisation, and community engagement. His work often reflects on social issues, in particular nature and climate change. is also the host of the YouTube cooking show “Cooking with Creatives,” where he interviews musicians and other creatives while they cook food together. |
