This piece was commissioned to celebrate the re-opening of the railway line between Alloa and Stirling in Scotland, and received its premier at a concert specially for the occasion on 17 May 2009. In the form of a rondo, the accompaniment provides the picture painting of a train, with the memorable melody over the top. "Memorable" in this case means it can easily become something of an ear-worm.
The organist giving the recital when I first heard it commented that it sounds as though it could have been written as the signature tune for a 1970s television series.
I find it hard to stop my left hand and arm from tensing up, and I'm afraid you can hear a couple of spots where I lost that battle.
