César Franck gave the first performance of the Trois pièces on 1 October 1878, which includes the beautiful Cantible. Frank developed his musical language alongside Cavaillé-Coll as he refined the french symphonic pipe organ.
Franck leaves specific registration instructions in his score, which can be a challenge to realize on instruments of different styles. Here, this work comes to life featuring the hauntingly beautiful Trompette on the Récit manual. In fact, the only registration changes throughout the work are the addition and removal of couplers! This was a wonderful learning experience for me. I played this piece many many years ago, but never appreciated it. (I guess I am less young now ;) )
Recorded on my home Hauptwerk Setup.
