Subtitled "Fantasia on 'The Last Post' and 'Lead, Kindly Light' (Sandon)" and arranged for organ by Felton Rapley.
Lt -Col Douglas A Pope (1904-1984) was director of music of the Coldstream Guards between 1944 and 1962.
He had been a parishioner of the church where I became organist, which is how I came to inherit the score for this rather saccharine piece.
For me it conjures up cheesy black and white war films with irrepressibly cheery Cockney tommies sitting round a fire when someone starts humming a hymn ... and it all goes from there!
It was written for a military band (

The hymn tune is repeated in the original score, but I don't think it adds much, so I've omitted the second time through.
