Composer: Alcock, Jr., John
Sample Producer: Lavender Audio
Sample Set: Hereford Cathedral Willis Organ
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Baroque
Description:
John Alcock, Jr. (1740-1791) took his Bachelor of Music degree at Oxford University at the same degree ceremony as his father took his Doctor of Music degree. John Alcock, Jr., published Eight Easy Voluntary's for the Organ in about 1775. He was successively organist of St. Mary Magdalen, Newark-on-Trent and Walsall Parish Church, both of which had rather small and limited instruments which were hardly capable of playing these voluntaries.

The "Eight Easy Voluntaries" are very typical of the period, in terms of musical styles, and colors of registration.

These are not "difficult" works, but I'm not quite sure why they are called "easy" either.

The second one in G is a standard Cornet Voluntary.

I'm pleased to share the score, which is attached below, but I've had enough of these "eighteenth-century delights" for awhile!

St. Mary Magdalen, Newark-on-Trent and Walsall Parish Church are attached below.
