Vittorio Giannini (1903–1966) was born in Philadelphia and was one of the most prominent American neo-romantic composers of his generation. Educated in Milan (Italy) and the Juilliard school, he returned to Juilliard to teach, followed by appointments at the Manhattan School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. Giannini was the founder and first president of the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1965. His large catalog of pieces includes works in all genres, ranging from operas to practical music for student musicians.
