Sunset

Ernest Alfred Dicks (1865-1948) was an organist in Cheltenham, and also to the Royal Masonic Lodge.

These works can all be found in Book 5 of the "Short and Easy Pieces." These are all fine pieces, more long-forgotten musical gems. They will require skill and finesse to make them sound well and polished, so, the word "easy" should not be taken too literally. :-)

This collection was published by Bayley & Ferguson in 1932, although the style is much earlier.

These three pieces, and the one that I'll upload tomorrow, "Peaceful Night" go together to make one complete day in terms of 24 hours. They would make a wonderful recital group, if you are so inclined.

"Sunset" is found on page 22. It is the most "straight-forward" of the group, using a stately, hymn-like atmosphere. There is great chance for controlled expression, and subtle artistry will do much to enhance the work.
