Composer: Dicks, Ernest A.
Sample Producer: Audio Angelorum
Sample Set: Peterborough Cathedral Hill
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Early 20th century
Description:
Ernest Alfred Dicks (1865-1948) was an organist in Cheltenham, and also to the Royal Masonic Lodge.

These works can all be found in Book 5 of the "Short and Easy Pieces." These are all fine pieces, more long-forgotten musical gems. They will require skill and finesse to make them sound well and polished, so, the word "easy" should not be taken too literally. :-)

This collection was published by Bayley & Ferguson in 1932, although the style is much earlier.

"Peaceful Night" is dedicated to the well-known organist and composer, James Purcell Mansfield (1889-1968). I've done a number of his works here on the Concert Hall.

"Peaceful Night" really isn't part of the "complete day through music" that I uploaded yesterday, but it does complete the cycle very nicely.

"Peaceful Night" is found on page 48. It is a more sectional work, and a bit larger and more substantial than the three works uploaded yesterday.

I'll probably do a few more of Dicks' pieces, and then it's on to the next unknown or forgotten delights!

The score is attached below, and, FINALLY, an autographed PHOTO of Earnest A. Dicks, as well as one of the dedicatee, James Purcell Mansfield.
