Herb Gellis (b. 1948) — Declamation (2000–03) for organ

American composer Herb Gellis (b. 1948) was educated at Penn State University and worked for decades as a software engineer for Bell Laboratories, Fairchild Semiconductor, and Hewlett-Packard. During his years at HP, he founded and managed the Hewlett-Packard Symphony Orchestra (1993–2008), a community orchestra originally formed largely from company employees. From 2009–18, he was the music director and president of the HPSO’s successor orchestra, the South Bay (California) Philharmonic. As a composer, Gellis has written a number of orchestral works and several pieces of chamber music. As founder of Harmonic Services Group, he has also produced new editions of a number of “forgotten” orchestral works from past eras.
