| Genre: | Modern |
| Description: | Kropfreiter was born 1936 in Hargelsberg, Austria. He studied in Vienna with Walter Pach (organ), Ernst Tittel (composition), and Hans Gillesberger (conducting). In 1960 he became organist at the famous St. Florian Monastery, where Anton Bruckner had been organist, and from 1966 he was also choirmaster at St. Florian. Kropfreiter died in 2003.
Kropfreiter was one of the most important Austrian organ composers of the 20th century and left not only organ music, but orchestra works, masses, choir and chamber music. His musical language incorporates counterpoint in Hindemith style and polytonality.
