Gustav Adolf Merkel (November 12, 1827, Oberoderwitz, Kingdom of Saxony – October 30, 1885, Dresden) was a German organist and composer.

Taught by Schumann and held the appointment as organist at Dresden Cathedral.

Unbeknownst to me until I was just reading Merkel's bio I have visited Dresden cathedral last year and wandered into an organ concert - so I have heard the organ he would have played, which is pretty cool. It was an amazing sounding organ.

This is a simple prelude and one of the first I learned on the organ. I believe it is Op 15. Number 1.

Hope you enjoy
