Description:
André Cormier (b. 1969) — Neuvaine (Novena) (1998) for organ

A novena is a Christian devotional praying tradition that consists of prayers repeated for nine days (or weeks). This organ novena is thus in nine brief contemplations. Each of the movements begins with the same material (an open fifth: C-G) and then develops in nine different, but related, ways.

André Cormier (b. 1969) is an Acadian composer originally from Moncton, New Brunwick, Canada. He studied in Europe with Antoine Beuger in Düsseldorf and has been active as a musician throughout Canada. Cormier founded Éditions Musique Sisyphe, an experimental music publishing house. His music has been performed by numerous North American and European ensembles.
