Gordon Ellsworth Young (1919–1998) wrote this interesting set of variations based on the old American hymn 'Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing' (NETTLETON). The score shows a 1941 copyright date, however other sources list 1961 as the correct copyright date. It was written for the composer's opening recital at Texas Christian University.
I think this is a good piece to show the colors and flexibility of the Friesach sample set. I definitely 'pulled out all the stops' and took the liberty of adding sub-couplers (not on the original organ) for the final chord.
Although I've been a member for five years this is my first submission to Contrebombarde.com. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this recording!
