Der Abend

Schweigt der Menschen laute Lust:
Rauscht die Erde wie in Träumen
Wunderbar mit allen Bäumen,
Was dem Herzen kaum bewusst,
Alte Zeiten, linde Trauer,
Und es schweifen leise Schauer
Wetterleuchtend durch die Brust.

Isn't this an incredibly beautiful, romantic poem?
In school, we had to read "Aus dem Leben eines Taugenichts"
by Joseph Eichendorff, and I was so in love with this poem that I could recite it by heart right away.

I only had the lyrics and composed a song for it some time ago.
We hear the song movement (A, C and E), a trio (B) and a 4-part fugue (D).
The redeeming major chord is only at the end as a reward for the complete listening through of this piece ;-)
