Description: | William Ralph Driffill (1870-1922) was born in Dunstable, England on December 8, 1870 and died at Barnet on April 24, 1922.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London. He was a music teacher and Organist of Monken Hadley Parish Church; St. Mark’s, Barnet Vale, 1901-.
He composed a number of piano works, as well as some important organ works, the most famous being his "Toccata" from Op. 14.
"Cantaline in A Minor" is found in Volume 58 of "The Organ Loft" series, published by The Vincent Music Co. Ltd. in 1909, where it appears as "No. 175" in the collection.
The work is seductive and immediately appealing. It would make for an excellent recital or encore piece. I suppose it could be used as a voluntary, but beware, or you may have them dancing in the aisles!
The score is attached below, as well as a photo Ralph Driffill, and several of the two churches he served as organist. |
