Philip Gehring (1925–2020) — Introit (1969) for organ
American organist and teacher Philip Gehring (1925–2020) was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and was educated at the Oberlin College Conservatory (B.M.) and Syracuse University (M.M. and Ph.D.). His teachers included Fenner Douglass, Arthur Poister, André Marchall, Herbert Elwell, and Ernst Bacon. He held teaching positions at Davison College (1952–58) and Valparaiso University (1958–88). As a composer, Gehring published various works of primarily sacred music.
