Composer: * My Own Transcription
Sample Set: Silver Octopus concert 100
Software: Hauptwerk V
Genre: Romantic
Description:
I have loved this piece since I was very young and have been playing it for many years in one form or another. I have the orchestral score and I also have a piano reduction priced at £1.20 !
I can see that one or two others have posted their own transcriptions on YouTube (including one by a long deceased one time famous organist which is really quite awful).
In this new transcription, I have attempted to keep as close to the orchestral score as possible for the most part. The Solo French Horn stop is featured throughout along with the Swell Oboe and Choir Corno di Bassetto. The independent string division is also used extensively.
Whilst not particularly difficult technically, the only way to produce the sustained drones is by use of a "sustainer" stop. Alternatively, one can wedge the notes down or get a friend to assist.
Otherwise, the main problem is getting everything to balance; especially in the later sections. This is a bit of a problem since there are very few chances to use the expression pedals to increase or decrease the volume of certain parts due to the feet being almost constantly engaged.
However, I do hope to have captured the basic spirit of the piece in my transcription.
I have used the Concert 100 model although it would be possible to produce an almost identical sound on any of the models from the 65-4 stop model upwards.
