Prelude on "Heinlein"

One of a series of recordings made for Lent 2021 based on the hymn tune "Aus der tiefe", also known in the Anglo-Saxon world as "Heinlein".

This composer was completely new to me, and also apparently to the website. Of Danish parentage, he was an Episcopalian organist and professor at Northwestern University. Among other things, he wrote a series of "Hymn tune transcriptions" - actually fairly sophisticated sets of variations in a typical Romantic style.

This one finishes with a canonic statement of the melody across two manuals, and invites full use of the cathedral organ colour palette.
