Description:
Charles Faller (1891-1956) was born in Geneva, Switzerland.

He was a conductor, organist and composer.

This delightful "Prélude Pastoral" was published by G. Schirmer Ltd. in 1914 as part of their "Album of French Organ Music".

At the time of composition, Charles Faller was Organiste de Noveau Temple de Lyon, which I believe was a type of "Protestant" church. Certainly, it was not of the "expected" Roman Catholic denomination.

The work is a miniature scene, rustic in feel and flow, but with a wonderful sense of contrast in the brief time that the piece takes.

The harmonies pass freely from French impressionism to neo-modal and back again, and the colors and results are very satisfying.

Later, Charles Faller was later organist of Lausanne Cathédrale in Géneva, Switzerland.

The score is attached below, as well as a photo of Charles Faller, and some of the
Noveau Temple de Lyon, and of Lausanne Cathédrale.
