Thomas Gabriel (b. 1957) — Romanze in A (2004) for organ

German composer Thomas Gabriel (b. 1957) was born in Essen and studied there at the Folkwang Hochschule. He held positions as a church musician in Recklinghausen, Idstein, Saarbrücken, and Mainz (where he cantor for the Regional Institute of Church Music in 1998). He is active as a keyboard performer and also as a member of the Thomas Gabriel Trio, a jazz ensemble focusing on arrangements of the music of Bach. Gabriel’s original compositions combine elements of traditional music with influences from the world of jazz and pop. His “Missa mundi” (with each movement representing a different world music style) was performed as the final event for the 2005 World Youth Day in Cologne.
