WORLD PREMIERE
This is the Rondeau from the suite which was condensed down from the full length ballet. It was used many years ago as the title music for a TV programme but otherwise I suppose the whole work is not terribly well known which is a pity.
Combining wonderful melodies with typical Poulenc quirkiness and considerable hints to jazz both in terms of harmony and syncopation, I believe the piece is fresh and exciting.
As stated above, this is a world premiere of my own transcription of the orchestral work for organ and I have also prepared a proper organ score.
The piece is performed on the Concert 125 which is a distinctly romantic styled organ with considerable orchestral resources. The piece features the French Horn and string section as well as the Choir Trumpet with no upperwork to provide a quasi orchestral sound.
Perhaps it may be up to someone else to provide a performance based on a more organ like registration
